Chardonnay is a green grape varietal that’s used to make white wine. Originating in the Burgundy wine region of Eastern France, this popular grape is now grown across the world wherever wine is produced. Chardonnay is often seen as a rite of passage and an easy entry into the international wine market for developing wine regions.

The Chardonnay grape itself is neutral flavoured with many of the nuances and tastes of the wine coming from external influences like the terroir of the region and oak from barrels. French Chardonnay features lean, crisp mineral tastes while Australian and New Zealand takes often have notes of citrus, peach, and melon! In cooler climates like Northern California, the wine displays more green plum, apple, and pear. It’s amazing the range of flavours that come from this humble grape!
