Remember back in September when you all ate a bunch of pizza for charity?

The fruits of your labour have paid off! Thanks the hard work of Heart to Heart, the Rende Foundation, our awesome restaurant partners, and each and every one of our Sherpa’s pizza lovers, 10-month old Chen Shaoyang from Guizhou sucessfully completed heart surgery to help him live his best life!
我们的成果得到了回报！感谢心连心、仁德基金会、我们的合作餐厅以及每一位为爱心接力的顾客，贵州10个月大的Chen已成功完成了心脏手术！
When Chen Shaoyang was a few days old, he was diagnosed with congenital heart disease in the county hospital. At the end of October 2021 at the age of 9 months, he was taken to a free medical clinic. The doctors there advised his family that Chen Shaoyang needed to have heart surgery. The family, being farmers and migrant workers, had no ability to raise funds to pay for the surgery. They are a family of five people of the Miao Minority. The grandparents have a small plot of land where they grow rice and vegetables for their own use. The mother takes care of Chen Shaoyang. The father works in a factory away from the home town and supports the family by sending money home. Although he makes ¥30,000 a year, only a very small percentage of that salary can be sent home after his expenses are taken out. The family also had a debt of ¥30,000 so they couldn’t get a loan to pay for Shaoyang’s surgery.
Chen刚出生几天时，在县医院被诊断出患有先天性心脏病。2021 年 10 月下旬，9 个月大的他被送往医疗诊所。那里的医生告诉他的家人，Chen需要做心脏手术。贫困的五口之家无法承担手术费用。祖父母有一小块土地，种植水稻和蔬菜只够自己使用。母亲负责照顾Chen。父亲则在远离家乡的工厂工作养家。虽然他每年能赚 3 万元，但在扣除生活开支后，只有很少一部分薪水可以寄回家。一家人还欠了3万元的债，无法贷款支付Chen的手术费。
Our donation helped him get the open heart surgery he needed on November 22nd. The surgery was successful, and Shaoyang came through it well. He spent 5 days on the critical list, but is now stable and has been moved from the ICU to the Recovery Unit. In normal times, we’d be able to pay a visit to him, but COVID is preventing that. We do plan on hopping on a WeChat video call with Shaoyang and his family though!
Chen在今年11月22日成功完成了心脏手术，现在情况也已稳定，从ICU转移到恢复病房。再过一些时日Chen恢复健康，食派士会进行爱心拜访。
We can’t thank everyone enough for all their help. Together we were able to help save a life. That’s worth more than all the pizza in the world! We look forward to doing this again next year!
