Do something different this year – skip the tropical sunny beach resorts and bundle up for some winter magic instead. (or at least play in the snow first before hopping on a direct flight to Southeast Asia)

‘The Ice City’ for its bitterly cold winters, Russian influence, and winter recreation.
Under the direct influence of the Siberian Anticyclone, the daily average tempuerate is -19.7C in winter. Yikes. However, that cold winter air ensures that the beautiful Harbin Ice Festival can take place every year! We visited this festival a few years back, and believe us, its incredible.
哈尔滨是中国东北地区人口最多的城市，因酷寒的冬季、俄罗斯的影响和冬季娱乐以“冰城”著称。在西伯利亚反气旋的影响下，冬季日均温为-19.7摄氏度。不得了。但寒冷气候也造就了哈尔滨每年举办的冰雪节！
我们几年前去体验过，相信我，绝了。
完全值得一试。为了暖和一点我们确实吃了不少
火锅，配着哈尔滨啤酒，还有街边小吃！
黑龙江漠河
Mohe is pretty much as far north as you can go in China. It’s located in the northwest of
Heilongjiang province near the border with Russia. If Harbin was a bit too chilly for your blood, don’t even think about coming here. Winter begins in the middle of October and lasts until the end of April.
The temperatures are the coldest in all of China, and Mohe lays just south of the permafrost border. The coldest temperature recorded here was a frightening -52.3C. Why would anyone visit? Well, on rare occasions you can spot the Aurora Borealis!
漠河是中国最北边的城市。它位于黑龙江西北部，与俄罗斯接壤。如果哈尔滨对你来说已经够冷了，那这儿可更冷。这里冬季从十一月中旬持续到第二年四月底。算是中国最冷的地方了，漠河就在永久冻土边界的南面。这儿的最低气温记录是可怕的-52.3摄氏度。

You can trek to crystal clear rivers and hike up mountains for stunning winter views. If you dare, you can proceed to strap yourself to some flimsy skiis or a snowbard and shred the slope down.

Anyway we look at it, the winter nature views are just incredible.

吉林长白山
Changbai Mountain or Paektu Mountain, depending on what country you’re in, is a legendary place. It’s an active stratovolcano that’s located on the border of North Korea and China. It’s considered a mythical mountain in Korean culture and is prominently featured in the North Korean national emblem and national anthem. What do you see if you hike all the way up to the top? You get a crater lake that sits in the caldera of the volcano.
长白山（白头山）是个传奇之地，
是一座位于朝鲜和中国边界的活火山。
在朝鲜文化中这是一种神秘的山，
在朝鲜国歌和国徽中都有出现。
山顶是什么样呢？

It’s aptly named ‘Heaven Lake.’ We think it fits the bill. You’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere in the Changbai Mountain range that isn’t gorgeous in the winter.
