In a world full of reboots and sequels, are you wondering why it took Disney six years to create a follow-up to one of the top-grossing films of all time? -After all, the original Frozen took in nearly $1.3 billion dollars worldwide!

Making a film of this magnitude is no easy task, and there are all kinds of interesting behind-the-scenes facts about the movie along with Easter eggs hidden in the movie (be on the look for hidden cameos from other Disney characters)!

We’ll give you a little introduction without any pesky spoilers.

Did you know that Frozen is the first Disney princess movie to ever be given a sequel with a theatrical release?

We’re as excited as her about it!

In order to truly capture the spirit of the Frozen world, all of the film’s producers and directors went on a research trip to Norway, Finland, and Iceland to gain inspiration for the movie. Wouldn’t that be nice if the Sherpa’s editors got a trip to Thailand for some curry inspiration?

Disney even signed an agreement with the indigenous Sámi people to ensure that aspects of their culture would be accurately portrayed in the movie.

Anna’s character is more influenced by Norwegian culture and represents a traditional fairy tale character while Elsa is based more on Icelandic culture and represents myth and legend.

In addition to all the research, it took forever to create and design the movie. Merely making the animations and effects for Elsa’s horse required a full-time staff of 6 animators working for half a year. They visited an equestrian center and worked with horse trainers to learn how to capture realistic horse movements.

The animators also utilized VR technology to create a path for the wind spirit Gale to follow.

The visual development artists stayed busy as well. They created over 120 unique costume ideas for Anna alone! Most of which didn’t even make the final cut. Speaking of costumes, the film utilizes a fall color palette to emphasize the passage of time and the growth of the characters.

Anna’s wardrobe was based on a Sleeping Beauty aesthetic and incorporates 19th century Norwegian fashion using materials that were available during that time period!
