It wasn’t too long ago that The People’s Bank of China announced that it will release new versions of Chinese money and the announced date for the new banknotes and coins will be August 30th, 2019.

中国人民银行不久前宣布，新版人民币将于2019年8月30日发行。

It’s quite likely that if we didn’t even mention this you probably wouldn’t notice as the changes will be so minute but here we are. The latest series of bills will have a very similar design to the previous editions, except that the colour has been brightened and its “note structure effect has been optimized.”

由于变化太小，乍一看我们很难发现新旧版本人民币外观上的区别。除了纸币票面颜色变亮和“票面结构效果优化”以外，新版人民币整体设计都和之前版本类似。

The latest series includes notes with values of 1 Yuan, 10 Yuan, 20 Yuan, and 50 Yuan, as well as coins with the values of 1 Yuan, 5 Jiao and 1 Jiao.

新发行的纸币票面包括1元、10元、20元和50元，新版硬币包括1元、5角和1角。

The coins also don’t have any significant change except for the 5 jiao coin, which is now silver instead of gold, and the 1 yuan coin is smaller.

新版5角硬币将从金色变成银色，同时1元硬币也将变得更小，此外其他硬币在外观上都没有明显改变。

The changes, although small to the general public, will be better protected from counterfeiting. The new notes and coins will circulate parallel to previous editions with the same value.

此次新版人民币虽然整体变化不大，但是防伪能力和印制质量获得了提升。而新旧两版人民币将同时并行使用，价值保持不变。

However, with mobile payments being the most popular form of payment across China, you’ll be lucky to even see the new money!
