Your Zhōngguó is our weekly Friday piece in which our users share their China stories. As Sherpa’s continues to serve hungry people across Shanghai, Beijing, and Suzhou, it’s only right that we get to the people we’ve been feeding!
What brought you to China? What has kept you here? Where’s your favourite place to visit? How do you spend your free time? What’s an exciting or funny story you want to share?
If you want to be featured send us your story and bio to katy@sherpa.com.cn – if you and your story interests us, we will be in touch!
Living My Best Life
by Dominic
I’m a dude from the U.K. who’s loving life in Beijing. I love the busy streets, I love the crazy food and building lights, I love how you can feel a city with thousands of years of history whilst looking into the future. On both of our tours, you can see the history (Old Beijing) and the future (Modern Beijing).
Beijing is bloody awesome and it’s a place that has so much opportunity and adventure. This is the reason I am still here and the reason I will stay (also my girlfriend, good friends, and of course my electric bike tour company, BElectric).
I came to Beijing from Nike’s European headquarters in the Netherlands after a call with a Uni mate (Campbell). Whilst here teaching English, I met my friend and business partners Ilya whilst studying at his Chinese school, Culture Yard. Together we created BElectric, and we now offer the only electric bike tours in Beijing. What we have done, is collate all of our favourite spots in Beijing and then planned tour routes to visit these places.
There are just so many things that I love about Beijing and China in general, that it’s hard to pinpoint just one. I love that you can order food to a spa or the cinema, I love that you pay for everything via your phone, I love that you can travel over 1000 miles for less than £30. I love that you can ride your bike on the pavement without a silly old man trying to push you off. The thing is, for a country that from the outside seems like it has lots of restrictions and barriers, I have never felt so free.
Dominic is from the UK but currently residing in Beijing where he runs his e-bike tours. When he is not taking guests on tours of Old or Modern Beijing he enjoys playing football, rock-climbing and looking for new spots to visit and try new food.
