What is your favourite childhood candy?
Coming from Singapore, I grew up eating White Rabbit.
No, not the actual animal but the famous Shanghai candy brand that’s known for its rich milky taste!
Every piece of candy offers a multi-sensory immaculate eating experience – from unwrapping the candy to popping it in your mouth and feeling the edible rice paper wrapper dissolve as nodes of sweetness hits you – simply goodness.
So when I discovered that White Rabbit has collaborated with Happy Lemon to launch its first pop-up milk tea store right here in Shanghai, I was super stoked and knew that I had to try it for myself.
Reaching the store at LuOne Mall on Tuesday evening, the queue was fairly manageable and service was prompt.
The White Rabbit Milk Tea (19¥) blew my mind. Creamy and smooth, I could distinctly taste the White Rabbit and relive my childhood with every sip. The candy ‘extract’, milk and aromatic tea were concocted in perfect harmony with each other.
Similarly, the White Rabbit Tiramisu Milk Tea (¥21) was a harmonious rhapsody of coffee and tea although I could not taste the White Rabbit.
The White Rabbit Milk Tea with Tapioca Boba (¥22) had a nice texture but not really something to rave about.
If you wish to avoid dairy products, you can try the White Rabbit Lemon Tea (19¥) which was refreshing and not overly sour.
Other items on the menu included the White Rabbit Lemon Tea with Ice Cream (¥25) and White Rabbit Tiramisu Milk Tea with Red Bean (¥23).
You can also get bunny-themed totes, pillows, merchandise and of course, candy, at the retail stand next to the pop-up.
Last orders are at 9 pm and the pop-up store will be open until 18 August (Sunday).
