Karaiya Spice House has finally come to Shanghai and opened up shop in Xintiandi’s new mall on Huaihai Zhong Lu and Huangpi Nan Lu. The mall, newly renovated, has a special focus on women in Shanghai.

Xintiandi Plaza, included in the community’s Social Renaissance concept, has a focus on “New Feminism.” There are a large number of high-quality retail shops and F&B devoted to serving women. Karaiya is a perfect fit for this mall, fashionable and spicy!

The dining environment of Karaiya in Xintiandi is a fusion of traditional Chinese and Western culture. Hand-painted murals of four beautiful Shanghai era women portrayed alongside a Hunan opera clad woman adorn the walls. Artistic, modern, and fashion fused with folk, and rural create an elegant, yet cozy feeling in the dining room.

Hand made wooden-temple chandeliers above our cocktail bar and in our private room add an ornate and rustic feeling to the dining experience, especially when enjoying the traditional Hunan cuisine on the large solid wood tables.

Established in 2009, Karaiya Spice House is the creation of Hatsune Group founder Alan Wong, and his wife Hannah, who is originally from Liling, Hunan. Devoted to those who love spice, the menu’s core ingredients as well as the chef’s who make the dishes, are all from Hunan. Fragrant, fresh, and clean all describe the cuisine in Karaiya. Must tries are the Liling Spicy Pork Stir-fry, Steamed Fish with 2 types of Hunan Peppers, Signature Duck, and Wild Mushroom Soup.
