Upcoming Markets, Bazaars, and Fairs in Shanghai

Ho ho ho! Tis’ the season for hot mulled wine, hearty eats, and plenty of great shopping events. We’ve compiled this handy list of fun places to go this holiday season just for you. Hopefully that gets us onto Santa’s nice list this year.

November 29th through December 15th

Jing’an Christkindlmarkt

The traditional German “Christkindlmarkt” (Christmas Market) is back in Shanghai for a full 17 days. The market will feature handicrafts and gifts, festive baked treats, roast almonds, Glühwein (mulled wine), and various other drinks. Delicious regional specialties from Germany and other countries will leave you stuffed and happy. Santa will come by on the weekends for kids big and small. The scent of baked apples, chestnuts, gingerbread and mulled wine, the wonderful sounds of the season, and delicious treats await you.

Entrance fee during weekends: (Friday – Sunday) is 60rmb, which includes a mulled wine or punch.

Presale is 50rmb on Smart Ticket. No entrance fee is required during weekdays. Kids under 12 accompanied by parent get in free.

Entrance fee: Saturday – Sunday*: 50rmb (including 1 mulled wine/punch) Monday – Friday: no entrance fee *Kids below 12 years with parents are free all days.

November 23rd & 24th:

 The Pearl’s 5th Annual Christmas Market

The Pearl’s fifth edition of their Christmas Market will take place on Saturday, November 23rd (noon-10pm) and Sunday, November 24th (noon-8pm). The two-day indoor market will include around 40 vendors peddling unique products. There will be booze and food, a full bar including traditional mulled wine, with bites like savoury foie gras and warm toasty waffles to accompany your shopping. Also, true to The Pearl’s form, live music and entertainers will be performing all day long at the market. There will be activities for the kids, and the opportunity for them to meet Santa himself.

Admission: is 20rmb. Kids under 5 years old enter free.

November 29th: 

Wellington Winter Wonderland Bazaar

Get into the spirit of the season at the Friends of Wellington Winter Wonderland Bazaar. The Bazaar will have more than 90 vendors offering seasonal Christmas items, decorations, and a wide range of unique gift ideas. There will also be arts and crafts, bouncy castles, and a chance to have your photo taken with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Children will enjoy visiting Santa’s secret present room where they can buy a small gift for mum or dad.  Catch all the action at 100 West Haiyang Road in Pudong.

Free entry.

December 6th until December 8th: 

Paulaner Christkindlmarkt

Paulaner hosts a Shanghai tradition, its annual Christmas market, full of Christmas food and drink, and gifts to purchase, in the finest German style. This is the 13th consecutive year this awesome festival has taken place. Don’t miss it!

Admission: 30rmb entry, which counts towards food and beverage. Free for kids under 10.

Green Escape Night Market

This Anyi Lu nature-themed night market is back! After launching in late October and taking a break for the Import Expo, it returns with more than 50 vendors. Expect stalls from DODU, RouRou, Charlie’s, The Odd Couple and more.

Jiashan Saturday Market

Shanghai’s longest running food and crafts market starts its 8th year featuring artisanal foods, fine crafts, and lifestyle goods. Hosted in the courtyard of a repurposed factory complex in the heart of the FFC area, this market creates a convivial atmosphere for meeting friends and lingering over snacks or a drink.

Market meets every first and third Saturday of the month.

Amission: Free.
