On February 12, Mr. Li from Shanghai received two text messages from his bank notifying him of a transaction of 20RMB and 9.5RMB. After a quick pat down of his pockets he soon realised that his bank card was in fact missing and quickly contacted the police.
The suspect used the bank card for nothing more than a quick meal of a burger and cola, but after attempting to withdraw cash he threw the card away deeming it useless.
Had the suspect kept the card he could’ve continued his low cost spending spree taking advantage of the contactless quick pay function enabled on the victim’s card.
The suspect was sentenced to an administrative detention for 5 days for the act of fraud he committed, despite it only being a measly 29.5RMB.
