  1. To pass the time on an extended train ride to a scenic place, I would take a romantic ride with my beautiful wife. I’d pack with ice, the portable cooler we recently brought back from the US. After getting settled, I would uncork a chilled bottle of refreshing white wine, maybe Protocolo Blanco from Macabeo, Spain. We’d pair that with a succulent avacado and mango salad we stowed to keep our hunger at bay. We might read for awhile or play some cards…cribbage is our favorite two person game, we can play for hours. As the sun nears the horizon, we’ll be hungry, so we’ll unpack a couple of sushi rolls from the small cooler we brought. Our favorites are moto-roll-ah, with tuna, crab and avocado, and definitely a clayton roll with shitake mushrooms, tuna, crab and roe, yum….we might have a soft after-dinner chat about our retirement dreams, what we would do tomorrow when we reach our destination or maybe about the sights we see out the window as they pass us by.
After dark, we might have a little dessert, I’m thinking, since it’s my wife’s favorite….a chocolate and raspberry tart. We’ll have an accompanying nightcap, my fancy is a snifter of Jim Beam Kentucky Bourbon, and my wife surely prefer a glass of Penfolds private release Shiraz Cabernet. When we’d had enough, we’d dim the lights, light up the candle app on my smartphone, retire to bed and….well, you know…
When the sun rises, we’d share some more…ya know…then laze around a bit, maybe check our phones for the stuff you need to check your phones for…maybe freshen up a bit. Before getting out of bed, we’d have to share a chocolate almond danish and pain au chocolate, as by now you’ve learned our weakness.
Upon arrival, we’d marvel at the quality of our trip…the destination might be outstanding, but the journey was the best part. We had time to reconnect and get close.
