Sure, it might be a little touristy, but that just means you can people watch while enjoying the tastiest snacks of Beijing all gathered together in a 24-hour, 2000 sqm. foodie paradise. You could opt to try the deep-fried scorpion skewers or just skip the creepy crawlies and enjoy regular bbq like a normal person along with savoury pancakes, sugary snacks, and more. We once spent a lovely evening drinking baijiu with the locals over plates of lamb skewers, stir-fried tomato and eggs, and fried shredded potatoes. Yum.

Taikooli has been working with the Chaoyang commerce bureau to help ramp up consumer nighttime spending. Restaurants and bars with outdoor seating are allowed to stay open late and there are also special summer pop up events. The entire area is being given a boost with plans to attract more high-end international fashion brands while the Taikooli West shopping area will be completed by 2021. With so much food, drink, and fantastic shopping all in one area, we predict some people won’t ever leave leave.

This weekly market is Beijing’s most mysterious shopping area. Visitors will have to get up early (or just stay up late) as the shopping extravaganza takes place every Wednesday between 3 and 7am at the Daliushui market on Donghuan Wu Lu. Bring your own flashlight and search through used books, furniture, vases, electronics, jewelry, and more. You never know what you’ll find. We recommend getting your drink on at Taikooli first to sharpen your bargaining skills.
