  1. On a cold day, gotta go with something spicy like the Chicken Vindaloo from Masala Art and a nice thick piece of nan to wipe the plate clean in the end. Yum!

  2. Winter is the perfect excuse for me to indulge in lots of roasted chicken, apple pie and warm cider! ‘Tis the season after all! 😀

  3. Sorry everyone, today’s WeChat Contest didn’t include the photo for ‘Name That Dish’. See the attached photo and tell us:
    a) What is this dish?
    b) Which restaurant is it from?
All guesses are welcome so take a stab at it!

  4. Tis the season and no matter what angle I look at that picture from, it looks like a fruit cake from Glo London Bakery Cafe.

  5. Ever try a BigMac and rich red Napa Merlot? The burger does something to make the fruit flavors in the Merlot just blow up in your mouth. Highly recommended as a cheap date .. especially if you are trying to find someone with a good sense of humor and attitude towards life 🙂

  6. My signature dance move that’s sure to impress a would be the double pirouette. Been a ballerina for more than 12 years. Getting old now… but can still manage to pull a few moves :p

  7. Another great recipe With vodka is drunken shrimp. Shrimp marinated in vodka lemongrass chilies and garlic then sautéed. Just add some steamed rice and keep the vodka shots flowing!

  8. Penne with Spicy Vodka Tomato Cream Sauce

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.

In large skillet, heat oil over moderate heat. Remove casing from sausage and add to skillet. Cook, breaking up the meat, until brown. Add garlic and red pepper and cook, stirring until garlic is golden brown.

Add tomatoes and salt; bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes.
Add vodka and cream and bring to boil. Reduce heat to low and add pasta, toss for 1 minute. Stir in fresh parsley and serve!

  9. I love vodka related dessert recipes and one in particular: Vodka Mocha Bundt Cake.

Perfect for the holidays, this bundt cake is delicious entry for the best bundt cake you’ve ever tasted. Moist and soft, it actually ends up tasting better after being refrigerated .. if it ever makes it in there! 🙂

  10. I just thought of two more:

Vodka Tempura Batter (Martha Steward’s recipe)

In a medium bowl, add egg yolk and vodka; stir until well combined. Add flour and stir until just barely combined, ignoring any lumps. Do not overstir or whisk, as tempura will become chewy and heavy.

    And for dessert….

    Chocolate Vodka Raspberry Cupcake

  11. Vodka Lemon Chicken!! (by John Rose)

The taste of the vodka and lemon together just adds that extra punch of flavor to the chicken!

Saute the lemon slices in a pan, whisk eggs and milk into s bowl, dredge a chicken breast in the flour, and then in the egg mixture. Place immediately in the pan. Repeat with the remaining breasts and saute the chicken until golden and cooked through
Deglaze the pan with the vodka and loosen the flavor bits at the bottom of the pan by scraping with a wooden spoon. Then add the butter, lemon juice, parsley, basil, capers, salt and pepper. Return the chicken and grilled lemon slices to the pan and toss.

Final part is to EAT!! 🙂

  12. Last week’s winner of the Bottle of Smirnoff is Marga, congrats! This week, were giving away an 88rmb voucher to (by luck of drawing from a hat) Karen. Please await an email for info on how to claim your prize.

Thanks to everyone else who entered, we’ll have another contest up on Monday!

  13. Resolution? Same as last year .. lose a little weight. Why? Cause deep down we all know we need to lose all those holiday lbs (or kgs).

  14. In 2015, I want to formally learn Chinese … cause you never know when it might come in hand here in Shanghai …

  15. VB, you’re totally right. We’d love to see this absurd standard done away with, but sadly, it probably won’t happen. Check your email tomorrow for your 88rmb voucher.

  16. My acrostic poem is also in the shape of a staircase (coincidentally) 🙂

    Weekends are so lonely
I live the life of a bachelor
Naked on my couch watching Star Trek
But that all changes when I order from Sherpa
Each delivery brings a smile to my face, heart and stomach
Every time I see the orange clad courier I don’t feel alone anymore
Remember to thank your courier cause he brings happiness and beer to me.

  17. Whiskey is too hard
    Insides rot with each sip
Nary a day where I regret my past excesses

    Beer, on the other hand
Ethanol laden beverage is a gift from the Gods
Even early man knew the wonders it brought
Revered and respected in its rightful place!

  18. Congratulations on your upcoming 14 year anniversary!

My guess for the contest is that you work with around 234 restaurants in Shanghai…

(hopefully in the next few years, that number will grow to 1234 restaurants!) 🙂

  19. As of December, we work with 172 restaurants (not different branches) in Shanghai. We have added a few more this month, however. Good guesses Amanda and Food Enthusiast. Amanda you take the prize with your closer guess.
    Thanks for entering!

  20. Our first CNY, the wife and I excitedly stayed up till midnight the night of the New Year and found a nice spot on our balcony to watch the legendary fireworks that we had heard about all week. At the stroke of midnight, the place went nuts and for the first 5 minutes or so we ohhhhhed and ahhhhhed at the colors and sounds. Around the 15 minute mark, the fireworks were stilling going off, my feet started to hurt and she let out a little yawn. After 1/2 hour of nonstop fireworks, we both agreed that it was time to go back indoors and get ready for bed. We tried to hide our heads under the pillows and stuff cotton balls in our ears till around 3am when we finally were able to get some sleep as the barrage of explosions slowly subsided.

The moral of the story, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing and unless your feeling nostalgic for a WWII air raid, leave town.

  21. I first thought you were asking about gastropubs, but from my college biology class I know that gastropods are snails etc! Yeah for paying attention in class!

  22. For the chance to win those 6 bottles of wine (just in time for CNY celebration!!!)
