Taxi Fares Are Rising!

That’s right, the much-dreaded but never-executed fare hike that we have heard about for ages is finally taking effect, TODAY. We guess you could say that taxi fares are getting ‘uber’ expensive. Right? See what we did there? Now, the flag down rate of jumping in a cab will not change from what we currently know, 14rmb, but this is in fact higher than the previously posted rate. Apparently taxis had already upped the charge without it really being legal. Great. Also, the city’s favourite cabs, the large Expo cabs will be increasing their rates to 16rmb just to get in! Not sure if it’s worth it anymore. For more info on the rate changes, see the post here on Shanghaiist. With taxi rate increases like this, you might as well call our boys in orange to deliver your food, because going out will be costing you a higher penny from now on.1
